A video to help you understand all the career paths for majors in China.
Isn't going to college all about finding a job after graduation?
But many students only know the names of their majors and have no idea what they can actually do after graduation or what the prospects are like.

Don't worry.
I've been deeply involved in college admissions and planning for six years, and today I'll use the most practical language to break down the employment details of each major.
Ready to go?

As usual, everyone, please report in the public chat.

Computer Science from a 985 or 211 university and with strong self-study skills, can work as an algorithm or backend developer in major tech companies, such as the recommendation algorithm position at ByteDance or the social product development at Tencent, with an annual salary starting from 200,000 RMB.

Although I often work overtime, my skills have improved, which makes it easier to switch jobs and get a raise.
Working in web development at small to medium-sized companies in the mid-to-low range, for app development, you need to gain project experience through internships.
For example, by participating in the development of corporate websites and mini-programs.
Otherwise, it’s easy to be phased out after 35.

As a civil servant at the Science and Technology Bureau, you might be responsible for cybersecurity and information technology construction, or you can work as a teacher at a training institute, teaching Python and Java, which is currently quite stable.
Of course, some just coast through college, ending up jobless after graduation.

Those with high scores in electronic information can pursue a master’s degree and then join Huawei Hisilicon for chip design or work on integrated circuit verification at SMIC, with an annual salary ranging from 150,000 to 300,000 RMB, recently riding the wave of domestic semiconductor substitution, with substantial project bonuses.

Those in the middle range can work for China Mobile or China Unicom, maintaining base stations.
For example, 5G base station signal tuning or hardware testing in electronics factories, such as testing the functions of mobile phone motherboards.
The monthly salary ranges from 8K to 15K, and the work isn't too strenuous, but the technical content is generally low.

Those at the lower end can mostly only work in sales, selling resistors and capacitors.
These electronic components come with a base salary of 5K plus commission.
All customers are factory buyers.
To advance, it’s all about networking.

In Automation, after graduating with a bachelor’s degree, most people end up in manufacturing or automotive plants, setting up production lines, or they work on after-sales service for automation equipment.
For example, repairing bottling lines for breweries.
They’re often on the road, traveling to different places.
A monthly salary of 7 to 12K, though tiring, still allows them to save money.
You can still accumulate industry resources, but it's different when you do independent research.

A position in Tesla's intelligent driving algorithm team or a robotics control position at DJI offers an annual salary ranging from 180,000 to 400,000 RMB.
From fixing equipment with your hands to writing code with your brain, the difference in education level is directly reflected in the job responsibilities.

After graduating with a bachelor's degree in Instrumentation, you either end up selling testing instruments or promoting water quality testers.
Selling spectrometers to pharmaceutical companies comes with a base salary of 6K plus commission, and you need to have some technical knowledge to talk to clients.

Alternatively, you might conduct tests in a lab, like using oscilloscopes to measure circuit signals in electronics factories, with a monthly salary ranging from 6K to 10K.
The job is stable, but there's not much room for advancement.

After completing a master’s and doctoral degree, you can join the Institute of Automation at the Chinese Academy of Sciences to develop intelligent sensors or work at Huawei on industrial IoT devices, with an annual salary ranging from 150,000 to 200,000 RMB.
This path overlaps significantly with the career prospects after pursuing a master’s in automation, but the competition is less intense since fewer people are aware of these opportunities.

For a stable career in Electrical Engineering, aim for a bachelor’s or doctoral degree from a 985 or 211 university, or a university directly affiliated with the former Ministry of Electric Power.
It's best to pursue a master’s degree and then join the city power grid for dispatch and maintenance work.

The monthly salary ranges from 8 to 15K, with plenty of benefits.
But advancement requires self-initiative.
Young people might find the pace slow, however, the responsibility in dispatch and maintenance is significant, with night shifts and stress.

Those who want to earn more can switch to embedded development.
For example, Hikvision develops firmware for surveillance equipment, and CATL focuses on battery management systems, with an annual salary ranging from 120,000 to 250,000 RMB.
It's a bit more demanding than working for the power grid, but having technical skills gives you more options for job hopping.

In the lower to mid-range of Mechanical Engineering, graduates might end up drafting in workshops, tightening screws, like in machine tool factories or agricultural machinery plants, where a monthly salary of 6,000 to 10,000 RMB can keep you afloat.
However, it’s hard to maintain a decent lifestyle, and the workshop environment is usually not great.

Choose mechanical and electronic intelligent manufacturing for high scores.
Work on intelligent machine tool development near Sany Heavy Industry, adding sensors to the equipment, writing control programs, or designing the mechanical structure of robots with an annual salary ranging from 100,000 to 200,000 RMB.

So if mechanical systems don’t incorporate electrical components, a lot of people will be out of work.
Only by incorporating electrical components can we move away from purely physical labor.
Mechanics is a field where you need to pursue a master’s degree; with just a bachelor’s, you can hardly find a decent job because it’s neither civil nor mechanical engineering.

Aerospace undergraduate programs are more aligned with specific industries.
After getting a master’s, it depends on the university and its focus.
For example, Harbin Institute of Technology specializes in aerospace mechanics.
You can work at the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, analyzing the structural strength of rockets.

Sichuan University’s mechanics program leans towards civil engineering, allowing you to join China Construction and focus on seismic design for bridges, earning an annual salary of 100,000 to 200,000 RMB.
This field has high requirements for mathematics and physics, and you will be using simulation software later.
Otherwise, you won't even be able to read the blueprints.

Materials Science undergraduates typically work in chemical plants, material testing, or sales, with a monthly salary of 6,000 to 10,000 RMB, working on the production floor or in sales.
You'll mostly be involved in the production process.

Master's and Ph.D. graduates enter the new energy and semiconductor fields, such as BYD's battery cathode material research and development, or the research and development of semiconductor target materials by SMIC, with an annual salary ranging from 150,000 to 300,000 RMB.
Only by joining the R&D position can one truly enter the industry; otherwise, it’s just assisting others, and R&D positions are mostly located in science parks in first-tier cities, offering a much better environment than factories.

In the field of energy and power thermal engineering, undergraduate graduates can work in power plants as shift operators, monitoring boilers and turbine parameters for a monthly salary of 8 to 12K.
Major companies like Huanneng and Datang provide comprehensive benefits including meals and accommodation.

After getting a master’s degree, you can work on thermal design in a large company, for instance, designing the heat dissipation solution for Huawei phones or the motor cooling system for Xiaomi cars, earning an annual salary of 120,000 to 200,000 RMB.
For those in the power direction, you can work on engine cooling systems in automotive companies or join Gree, which is making air conditioners and developing the compressor for new energy storage applications.

Traditional civil engineering roles often involve working on construction sites for China Construction and China Railway as a site engineer.
Technical staff oversee the reinforcement binding and concrete pouring but often find themselves away from home for long periods.
The living conditions in the site dormitories are usually basic.

Now there's another opportunity to venture overseas, working on infrastructure projects in Africa and Southeast Asia, which can double your salary, but the conditions are tough, and you'll be far from home, having to adapt to the local climate and cuisine.

Software engineering in intelligent construction is a bit better, working as a beam engineer with a monthly salary of 10 to 15K.
You don't have to rely solely on physical labor.
Working at a design institute or an engineering consulting firm allows you to have an office job, but the current demand isn't very high.

Water Conservancy is similar to civil engineering, just with site changes to dams and hydropower stations.
Undergraduate students might work on-site at a water conservancy bureau measuring water levels and tracking progress, with a monthly salary of 7,000 to 12,000 RMB.
Work locations are often in remote mountainous areas.

If you pursue a master’s degree in water resources informatics, you can join a design institute to develop reservoir scheduling systems or work at the water bureau for flood control, earning a stable monthly salary of 10 to 15K.
But it’s hard to get back to the city; many positions are in third- or fourth-tier cities.

Surveying undergraduates wear yellow hats and carry instruments to measure terrain and elevation differences in the field.
For example, selecting routes for highways or measuring the earthwork volume for real estate projects, with a salary ranging from 6K to 10K per month.
Exposure to the elements can lead to getting sunburnt in the summer.

If you pursue a master’s degree, you can switch to digital photogrammetry and remote sensing, working on map data processing in companies like Gaode or Baidu, or join a military research institute for military surveying, earning a salary of 10K to 15K per month.
It's a niche industry; you won’t starve; you might not get rich, but as the technical threshold increases, the working environment can shift from the field to the office.

A bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Pharmaceuticals can lead to a job in a chemical plant or working on the production line in a pharmaceutical factory with shift work, for example, the synthesis process in a fertilizer plant or the production of opioids in a pharmaceutical factory.
The monthly salary ranges from 6 to 10 thousand RMB, and the workshop can have a strong odor.
