Hey guys, it's Natalie. Welcome or welcome back to my channel. Today I'm going to be giving you 10 must-haves for being a Catholic.

Okay, a little disclaimer. You definitely don't need these things to be a Catholic, but these things will definitely help you grow in your faith.

So what I'm going to do is split them up into 10 is not 10. Five physical things and then five spiritual things I think you need to be the best Catholic you can be.

Okay, so the first thing I think you need are the necessary books. As you can see, I have a lot of books right here. But obviously, you're gonna need a Bible.

This is the New American Bible, revised edition. So I just note taking this one. I mean, it's not like a note-taking Bible but you can see like I just write on the sides, focus. Yeah, so that. And it's like tabbed a lot and whatever.

But yeah, so I have that Bible. I just think you need a good Bible and make sure you get the Catholic one because we have all the books in the Bible and like the Protestant Bibles they took away seven books, I believe, of the Bible.

So yeah, make sure you get the right one. And then this is the word on fire Bible but it's just the gospels. This is really good because it'll like say so it'll give you like the Bible verse and then it has like little stories underneath it and it can explain like the significance or the time period and or like saints that have commented on this Bible passage.

So it really can help you get through the gospels and totally understand it more like fully.

And then I obviously like you should have a catechism too because they had a kiss then will explain our beliefs and things like that. But then this is also a really good book, 100 things every Catholic teen should know. They probably have one for just everyone should know.

But I have this one for teens because I've just had it for a while and yeah, it basically kind of goes through the catechism too and explains that. So that's a really good just like quick tidbits to understand the Church as a whole.

I think some saint books like this is the true devotion to Mary so it can help you be devoted to Mary. It's written by a saint and then like St. Francis. So those are like examples.

Also, like an apologetics book – the case for Jesus because you know this just goes through the biblical and historical evidence for Christ himself. If you want to, like, go defend the faith and you’re a history person, that would be good for you.

Lastly, this is a handbook of prayers. It basically has the prayers in English and then Latin on the other side and then even goes through like the mak kind of. So yeah, I think this is a really good book to have. It even has beautiful pictures.

I don’t know if they sell it anymore. But yeah, it has prayers like before Mass, prayers before communion, consecration to Blessed Virgin, prayer before day work, like all these prayers. So I think that's really good to grow in your spirituality.

The next must-have is a rosary or like a chaplet. I have these two. I have more rosaries hanging up in my room. But yeah, I have this rosary from the Holy Land.

Let's see. Focus, focus. I think it's so, so, so, so beautiful. And it has the St. Benedict medal on it. So yeah, that's the front of the Benedict medal and then the back.

The St. Benedict medal basically has the initials for like a mini exorcism. So this is a really good rosary to use and to pray because when you're praying it and when you hold this, you’re being protected, literally against the demons.

So it's like the rosary and that, but I think that's beautiful. Also, I have this type of rosary chaplet thing from this order in Spain, I believe. So it's just like.

Yeah, it really. It's different, but it's so pretty and beautiful. So just have some like a rosary or a chaplet so you can pray. Because praying through Mary to Jesus is the quickest way to get to Jesus.

Next, I would say to have anything holy. And by that, I mean like holy water or holy salt. I don’t have any with me right now. I have some downstairs in my house that I couldn't get any right now.

But basically, whenever you bless yourself, if you're like remorseful of your sins and you commit a venial sin, you can be washed away by your sins when you bless yourself with that.

Also, holy salt was used in exorcism. If you're having a bad dream, we used to do this to my sister. Like, she had a bad dream, we would put holy salt on her bed and then she would be able to sleep.

It's blessed so that like the demons run away from it. So it's good to have stuff like that because if you're ever in a pinch or pickle or if you sin or something and you can't get confession right away and just want to cleanse yourself, especially like before Mass.

That's why we bless ourselves with holy water so we're clean for Jesus. So yeah, I would definitely get some holy water or salt blessed. You can just get kosher salt and ask your priest to bless it.

The next things I'm going to say, it's not like jewelry, but it's like stuff you can wear. And so that is a scapular. This is the brown scapular.

Let's see. Focus, focus. There we go. Okay. The brown scapular. You have to get one made out of 100% wool. You can look it up. It's like a private devotion you have and you can look up stuff about it.

I will make a video on that coming up soon, sometime I'll make a video on that or like I said before, the St. Benedict medal which is on my rosary.

But yeah, you can wear one of those and then you'll always be like protected or what I love is my favorite a miraculous medal.

Let's see. That’s the front with Mary and then the back is like the M with the cross on it. I’ve actually definitely been saved by this. Like, literally.

It's so amazing. You don’t even understand like wear a miraculous medal if you can because Mary always comes through.

And the last physical thing I think you need as a Catholic is a crucifix. So this is one of my crucifixes. I just took this one down to show you.

I mean I expect you guys know what a crucifix is. It's in every Catholic church, but it should be in every Catholic church.

Basically, I think you should have a crucifix more than just a cross that Protestants have because it can remind you of like actually what Jesus did.

When we just look at the cross, we say, "Oh, okay." But seeing a human on it adds so much more depth to it. I have so many crucifixes in my room.

I really love the reminder of the sorrow and the passion that he actually had for us. So yeah, I think you should definitely have a crucifix either like wear one or put some in your room or just somewhere.

Try to have one in every place you go throughout the day. So if you own a house, try to have one in every room in the house. Just so you’re reminded of what he did for you.

Now, the five spiritual things I think you need to have as a Catholic is an open mind is the first one.

A lot of the time, we join the Catholic Church and we're just still like not open to hearing what the Catholic Church has to say.

We handpick or we’re Protestant, and we don’t even have an open mind to hear what the Catholics have to say. I think we need an open mind because if we don't have an open mind, then we're just closed off to ourselves.

And that's like literally what sin is: being closed in on ourselves. So, you need an open mind if you’re going to be Catholic or even listen to what a Catholic has to say.

The next thing, kind of going from that, is questions. So many people are like, "Oh, just accept it. Just accept what the Catholic Church believes."

But no, honestly, you need questions. If you don't question things, then you're just settling and you should never settle. Settling is the worst position you can be in.

I think you need to question. Well, I don't think you need to question because if you don't question, then you're never gonna get the true answers that your heart is longing for.

The next thing I think you need is faith. A lot of us are just super these days, like philosophical and like, need the scientific answers.

That is amazing because the church totally lines up with all that. But we also need faith. If you don't have faith in someone, you can't trust in them.

And if you don't trust, you can't have a relationship with them. So if we don't have faith, number one, if we don’t have faith that Jesus really rose, then that’s so depressing.

If we don't have faith, then that means we were never saved. And that means the gates of heaven were never opened up for us to have a possibility to enter.

If we don't have faith, we could believe that Jesus' body really isn't there for us. That means we won't ever have a physical, intimate relationship with him.

Like, how depressing is that? So you need faith if you want to be Catholic.

The fourth spiritual thing I think you need is detachment. We are so caught up in the things of this world.

I can attest to that too. We’re so attached. Even if we don’t think we are, we’re so attached to something. There is something in our life that we have as a God.

Whether you want to say it or not, even atheists, their God is that I put my whole existence into my phone. I put my whole existence into not believing in God.

You're always putting something at the top of your hierarchy. Hopefully, that's God, but for most of us it isn’t God.

We say it is, but usually it's not. We will always have something at the head of our priorities because it's how we are as a human. We're made through order and authority.

So something is always at the top of that authority. A lot of times it isn’t God. So we need detachment from this world because really most of our life should be hopefully in heaven.

What we're going to live on this earth for 80 years and then the rest of our life, eternity is in heaven and that’s not of this world.

So we already need to prepare ourselves and know that we are here on earth, but this isn’t our home.

The last thing I think you need as a Catholic, and this is a really, really, really good one, is a devotion to Mary or a saint.

Recently my devotion for Mary has grown because I've realized that like, wow, wait, the quickest way to Mary is through Jesus. I mean, the quickest part of Jesus is through Mary because she was literally his mother.

Like, wow, he came to this world through her. That means we can get to him through her. Like, that’s just crazy.

So either having a relationship to Mary or you can have a relationship to a saint. I have a strong devotion to St. Claire. I don’t know why, just ever since I was little.

Her love for the Eucharist and yeah, something about her just draws me. I'm just drawn to her. So you should either have a close devotion to a saint because they are in heaven.

So they're literally a part of communion. They’re in communion with God right now. So that’s pretty close. So saint or Mary. And Mary is a saint too, but Mary is another quick way to get to Jesus.
